Why Lida is here

She built a house of forty in Tehran. Then she did it again in Los Angeles.

We go looking ourselves, city by city, for the artists we would send a friend to. Lida is our Los Angeles pick for colour.

Twenty years ago in Tehran she opened a hair salon, a nail salon and a spa. They grew to a team of forty. Then she started teaching: her own programmes for stylists and makeup artists, at home and across Turkey and Dubai. Then she moved, and none of the standing moved with her.

She re-licensed in California and took a chair at Juan Juan Beverly Hills. The clients followed. Her own room opened in 2019. Gloss & Glam followed in 2024, a colour house with the scalp work she had wanted to offer for years built in behind it.

“Many salons prioritize styling, but few consider the long-term health of the hair and scalp. We go beyond just making hair look good—we ensure that it’s nourished, healthy, and thriving.”

Colour first, and length when the hair can carry it.

Twenty-three years in, colour is still what they come for. Blonde that stays cool to the ends. Corrections another room started and could not finish. Grow-out that never announces itself. She owns the place and she still takes clients.

For length the salon works in tape-in, weft, clip-in and ponytail. Which one you leave with depends on your hair. That is what the consultation is for.

She reads the scalp before she adds anything to it. Two minutes, at the start, every time. It is the part most rooms skip.

The house

You will know who is doing your hair.

Lida runs the floor and keeps her own chair. Here is the rest of the room.

The team at Gloss & Glam Hair Salon & Head Spa
  • Lida Mehrabi Founder and master stylist. Colour and correction, and the consultation everything else starts from.
  • Mona Forouzan Stylist.
  • Mehran Karuei Senior stylist and makeup artist.
  • Shiva Kakakhani Stylist and head spa technician.

“Lida is a hair genius! The result? A hair color that’s like it was custom-made for me.”

Five stars, 294 times over. Plenty of them name somebody other than the owner. That is what a well-run room looks like.

The work

From her chair.

Colour, mostly. It is what the room is asked for and what the reviews keep coming back to.

Long ash-blonde hair with a soft grown-out root, shot in daylight

Cool blonde, carried the whole way down. The root left dark on purpose, so the grow-out never announces itself.

Shot outside on W 3rd, in flat afternoon light.

Platinum blonde hair, straight and glassy, photographed from behind

Platinum, kept glassy. No warmth left anywhere in it, and no snap either. The hair still bends.

An ash blonde melt out of a dark base, worn long and straight

Ash, melted out of a dark base. Ends left blunt, which is why the length reads as thick as it does.

The look

What the room is for.

Also in the room

A head spa, if your scalp needs one.

Gloss & Glam is one of the few rooms in Los Angeles with a proper Japanese head spa built into it. Scalp reading first, then a detoxifying scrub, massage, steam, serum under an oxygen spray, red light at the end. Thirty, sixty or ninety minutes.

Most people try it as an add-on. Then they keep booking it. If you are coming in for blonde or for length, it also tells her what your hair can take.

The room

Beverly Grove, second floor, on the W 3rd Street side. Gold light and warm water, and an hour in which nobody asks you anything.

The feed

@glossglamhairspa

Gloss & Glam posts on Instagram, TikTok, Facebook and YouTube, all under the same handle. It is the most current record of the work: colour finished that afternoon, whoever happened to be in the chair.
